Easy Iced Mocha Recipe for Summer

Iced Mocha recipe

This easy Iced Mocha is quick and easy to make. It takes just five minutes to make.

Hey, friend. You may know that I have tons of coffee recipe on this site. I’ve had a lot of inquiries about making some of these Iced Mocha.

It’s a little more difficult than simply pouring them over ice. I therefore went through my coffee archives, created iced coffee versions of most requested drinks, as summer is quickly approaching and cold coffee makes it a lot more bearable.

Today we’re going to be talking about a homemade Iced Mocha, which is one of my favorite desserts.

A Super Easy Iced Mocha Recipe

Iced mochas, like homemade mochas are easy to make at home. For richness, you only need to use milk, cocoa powder and sugar. You can also add some whipping Cream for extra richness.

It will take about five minutes to make a cup of cold coffee (more on that later) and then pour it over ice.

Ingredient Notes

Coffee: Starbucks default uses 2% milk for their coffee drinks. But, you can use any kind of milk, including non-dairy milks. The creamier and richer your drink will be, the higher the fat content of your milk.

Homemade Chocolate Syrup: Instead relying on store-bought syrups or hot chocolate mixes, you can make a quick syrup from cocoa powder and sugar. This will flavor the mocha base.

Heavy Cream: Cream can be used if you prefer a richer coffee flavor. You can find storage tips and ideas on what to do with left-over whipping cream in my post How to Use Leftover Heavy Cream.

How to make an Iced Mocha at home

  1. To make a smooth chocolate syrup, first whisk sugar, cocoa powder and a little milk over medium heat.
  2. Next, add a little milk and cold coffee to the syrup. Stir and then pour it over ice.
  3. Serve with whipped cream, if desired. This is the fudge sauce recipe that I used to garnish my mocha.

How to quickly chill your coffee

It’s important to use cold coffee when making this mocha. Warming it over ice will just make it waterier. To save time, you can put leftover coffee in the fridge overnight so that you’re ready to go the next morning.

However, if you are in desperate need of an iced coffee and don’t have any cold water in the fridge, this is what you can do.

To make double the coffee, brew one cup and then add 1 heaping teaspoon of ice to each cup. The ice melts, cooling the coffee and bringing it down back to its original strength. To save time and avoid wasting coffee, freeze any coffee left over.

OR pour hot coffee in large cups and place it in the fridge for 15 to twenty minutes, until it is at least room temperature. You should not forget about it, however!

I Want a Mocha Frappuccino

Finally, mocha frappes might be more your style. Instead of pouring your mocha on ice, you can blend it with 1 1/2 cups ice. I would also suggest increasing the sugar. The ice will make it less sweet than the regular over-ice version.

Pro tip: Pour the frappuccino into a glass and swirl some fudge sauce around it. It’s beautiful AND delicious.

Do I have to double the recipe?

Yes! Yes! You can change the recipe yield by hovering over the serving size on the recipe card or clicking if you are on mobile. The slider will then slide.

What is the caffeine content of homemade iced mochas?

While the exact amount will vary from one recipe to another, this homemade coffee contains approximately 96 grams of caffeine.
