How To Make Iced Coffee

Iced Coffee Recipe

We’re excited about iced coffee season, and are already thinking of new ways to make this refreshing, caffeine-rich drink ours. Iced coffee is the best way to get through summer, whether you’re adding it to our favorite hazelnut and chocolate spread, or adding fresh mint.

Before we get too excited, let’s first make a simple iced coffee recipe. This is the one that we can modify as we wish and then work from.

We had this in mind when we asked Lynsey Harley (founder of Modern Standard Coffee) how to make the best iced espresso. She shared some tips and tricks with us as well as the low-down on our favorite caffeinated beverage.

How can you make iced coffee ?

It’s easy, really. You will need a tall glass with ice and brewed coffee. If you like, you can also add vanilla syrup. You’re done! Enjoy a rich, creamy glass of homemade, no fuss iced coffee.

A shaker is a great option if you feel the need to push the envelope. Mix all ingredients together and shake it up like a cocktail. It’s like an espresso martini, but without the alcohol!

What is the difference between cold brew and iced coffee?

Iced coffee is just that, iced coffee. It is as easy as pouring regular brewed coffee into a glass of ice. Lynsey explains that iced coffee is made from espresso that has been brewed for approximately 25 seconds.

Cold brew takes a bit more effort and is less simple. Cold brew is not just about serving coffee over ice. It involves steeping course-ground coffee in cold water for at least 12 hours.

The stronger and more flavorful the coffee is, the longer it sits.

Lynsey refers to cold brew as “concentrate” that can be diluted with any liquid you like, such as milk, water, or tonic.

Do you need to add sugar?

You can add sweetness to your coffee if you want it. It’s worth adding sugary elements in syrup form (like vanilla syrup or hazelnut syrup) to cold coffee. Standard sugar granules will not dissolve. Make sure to dissolve the sugar in hot water before you use it.

Is freshly ground coffee better?

Freshly ground coffee beans taste better, let’s face it. We’re not coffee snobs. Instant coffee is fine if you are in a hurry or need to get your caffeine fix quickly.

What add-ins are available?

You can put your own twist on anything. Vanilla syrup can be added if you want something sweet. A spoonful of vanilla syrup can be added to make it even more delicious.

You want something more luxurious? You can add a few teaspoons of cream.

What can I do to stop my iced coffee becoming watery?

Double the amount of coffee that you use to ensure your iced coffee isn’t watery. You can also make your own coffee-ice cubes if you prefer. Make a batch of coffee and let it cool. Then, place the ice tray in the freezer.
