Want to live longer? Drink coffee

We know, you too are confused by all the research on drinking coffee  that pops up like mushrooms (or coffee beans) after the rain. So let’s make sense of it all with the help of three studies, whose results have been published in recent days. Most importantly the sentence in the title.

These data are based on a full decade of research, and it appears that drinking two to three cups of coffee daily reduces the risk of heart disease, heart failure or heart rhythm by 10 to 15 percent.

Another important piece of information was examined in the study has to do with the type of coffee people drink. The researchers examined the differences between black, instant and decaffeinated coffee, and found that there was no difference in outcome and good effect between the different types. That is, the positive effect on the body is not necessarily related to caffeine but to other excellent compounds found in coffee beans and not to the quality of the coffee or its degree of “purity”.

“We have found that drinking any type of coffee no matter what form is good for a person,” said research author Professor Peter Kistler, among others, head of the field of clinical electrophysiology research. “There was a thought that there would be an effect on the level of coffee or its ‘purity’, but that was not what the results showed.”

“Doctors are generally afraid that people with cardiovascular disease will drink a lot of caffeine and they advise them to stop, because of the fear that coffee, which is a stimulant, will cause a heartbeat at a dangerous rate. But our research shows that regular coffee consumption is a safe activity. heart”.

The first study focused on gathering information from more than 382,500 adults who did not have heart disease and were 57 years old on average. Here it was found that participants who drank two to three cups of coffee daily were at the lowest risk of later developing the heart problems the study focused on. In fact, it was found that people who drank about one cup of coffee a day were at the lowest risk of having a stroke or dying from cardiovascular disease.

The second study was, as mentioned, on the quality of coffee while the participants in the third study were those who had already suffered from arrhythmia or a type of cardiovascular disease.

No harm was found here from drinking coffee, which means that no connection was found between the level of coffee consumption and the development of arrhythmia or other diseases. In contrast, among adults with arrhythmia, coffee consumption – especially one cup per day – was associated with a lower risk of premature death.

Not all doctors agree with these conclusion

It is important to note that despite the scope of the study, some criticize it, because it was not possible to control all the variables in it. Although the researchers examined propensity for alcohol, smoking, diabetes and high blood pressure, they mainly controlled the diet of the people and their overall way of life, so some researchers say there are deficiencies and gaps in the study. Researchers also argue in response that there may be a minority in society of people who are more sensitive to coffee. According to Dr. Lee Schwam, a senior Boston doctor, “one should be careful because there are those who drink espresso before bed and fall asleep and there are people who are very sensitive to coffee.”

Another researcher who also reviews the study, Dr. David Cao, an associate professor in the Department of Cardiology and Bioinformatics and Personalized Medicine at the University of Colorado, notes that “I would be careful with the results but yes it can be said in general that the study shows moderate coffee consumption To stop if a person has heart disease, even if it is an abnormal heart rhythm. “

Either way, the extensive research will be presented to the medical world at the 71st annual scientific session of the American College of Cardiology on April 2-3, where researchers will be able to study the findings in depth and see if there is agreement on them.
